These are real fares we recorded on September 26, 2026, for one adult in economy. Fares move every day, so some will be gone by the time you read this and new ones will have appeared. The pattern behind them is the useful part, and it holds up well.

Notice anything? Portugal is doing a lot of the work
Six of the fifteen are in Portugal, and most of the rest connect through Lisbon. That's no coincidence. Air Transat and TAP both fly Toronto to Portugal, Azores Airlines flies to the islands, and that competition keeps fares down. Lisbon also makes a cheap gateway: fly there, then hop to Spain, Morocco or anywhere in Western Europe on a budget airline for a fraction of the transatlantic fare.
Icelandair is the other name that keeps showing up. It connects through Reykjavík, which is why Paris, Amsterdam and Dublin all come in under $660. Many of its fares let you stop over in Iceland for a few days at no extra airfare, so you get two trips for the price of one.
When is Europe cheapest from Toronto?
We compared prices for 45 European routes month by month, from this fall into next spring. Each route is measured against its own typical fare.

The takeaway is simple: October and November are the sweet spot, and December is the most expensive month by a wide margin, about a quarter more than October. If you want Christmas markets, go in late November when they've opened but the holiday rush hasn't started. And April is quietly good value before the summer surge.
Three ways to make a cheap fare cheaper
- Fly midweek. Our analysis of 68,000 fares found Tuesday is the cheapest day to leave Toronto and Wednesday the cheapest day to come home.
- Check what's included. The cheapest European fares are often basic economy, which can mean no seat selection and a fee for a checked bag. A $599 fare plus $140 in bags isn't a $599 fare.
- Book with the airline. Once you've found the fare, buy it on the airline's own website. If a flight changes or gets cancelled, you'll deal with the airline directly instead of a middleman.
